Ancient Bead Necklace

This bead necklace features an ancient Javanese glass bead, finished with contemporary Japanese beads and 14 Karat gold beads and clasp.

The large bead is a rare Ancient Javanese Mosaic Bead, dated 750 - 1500 A.D., This bead was found in Java and is considered to be a Indo-Pacific bead. These large, extra-ordinary mosaic beads derive from late Persian glass techniques. These crafts were brought to Java and Sumatra by the movement of trade by Arab and Indian merchants seeking sandalwood, ebony and spices from the islands. The bead has been stabilized and and is protected by a 14 Kt gold sleeve in its perforation.

The smaller old beads are from Southeast Asia, Sri Lanka and Southern India and date from 750 - 1500 AD. They were traded from China to Africa and are usually called Trade Wind beads or Indo-Pacific beads.

There are 14 Kt gold sleeves on either side of the large bead. The matte and clear beads are modern Japanese glass beads.
