Ancient Bead Necklace

This is a bead necklace made of ancient glass beads accented with contemporary 14 Karat white gold beads and clasp.

All of the small dark blue glass beads were found in Java and are from the Early Classical Period, 750 - 900 C.E. They are Indo-Pacific beads, sometimes called Trade Wind beads. This necklace also contains various light blue beads that are from the Venetian and Chinese trade.

The large blue drop-shaped bead is a ‘Roman bead’, most likely made in Egypt and other locations in the Eastern Mediterranean. These beads have been found as far away as Djenne, Mali in West Africa. Archaeologists have dated these finds about 300 - 800 C.E.
