Vintage Bead Necklace

This is a bead necklace made of vintage glass beads accented with contemporary 14 Karat white gold beads and clasp.

This strand is a collection of small beads, plain and striped, round and tubular, predominantly out of the African trade. They were produced from the 16th through the 19th Century in Venice and traded to Africa, the Americas and Asia.

The central bead is a six-layer Venetian chevron out of the African bead trade. The built up layers of alternating colored glasses are exposed by rounding off the ends of the bead. This style of bead was first created in Murano, Italy in 1496 and was produced until the mid 20th Century.
