Linda Marion

I have been working as a visual artist for many years. I focus primarily on still life, landscapes, and what I call "nature paintings," or close-ups of elements in a particular environment.  My own yard has provided much inspiration, resulting in a number of paintings.

My interest in still life was reinforced when I lived in Italy (for a total of 16 years), where I came to appreciate the beauty (and taste) of farm-fresh produce, particularly tomatoes (pomodori), of which there is an infinite variety in Italy; peppers (peperoni) of all colors; and eggplant (melanzane), among others.  Also I have always loved seashells, with their delicate, nuanced coloring and varied contours, as well as found objects, especially those with a rusted, crusted surface.

I attempt to simplify the composition as much as possible in order to draw full attention to the objects being depicted.  The shaded areas are important elements in the composition, and the play of light and shade on the subject is crucial to creating the illusion of three dimensions.

The artist's collection can be seen at Charley Hafen Jewelers • Gallery from Friday, May 20, 2016 through Saturday, June, 11, 2016.
